Are You a Good Role Model?
1.You and your best friend are supposed to be studying, but she’s more interested in who’s online. Since you are at her house, you:a)Leave the homework and pull up a chair by the computer. b)Tell her you’re going to call your mom to drive you home so you can get some real work done. c)Tell her that you’ll be in her room, prepping for those A’s.
2.When your aunt can’t convince your younger cousins to stop running around at your family’s annual reunion, you:
a)Threaten your cousins with a big, mysterious punishment if they don’t listen to the adults. b)Make up a fun but quiet game that will calm everyone down.
c)Cause a ruckus right along with them. You haven’t had this much fun since last year!
3.“I’ve got gossip!” your friend gleefully announces. You:
a)Remind her that gossip is not your thing, and then change the subject before she can say anything else.
b)Have two words for your friend: Do tell!
c)Make up an excuse for why you need to be somewhere else…right now.
4.You know you didn’t step out of bounds, but the referee at your soccer game insists you did. You:
a)Argue with the ref and then kick up a chunk of grass in frustration.
b)Accept the call, and rally your team with a “Let’s go, girls!” We have a game to win!
c)Don’t say anything to the ref, but rant about the bad call to your teammates—for the rest of the game.
You’re hanging out with the neighborhood kids when someone suggests pulling a prank on an old lady down the street. You:
a)Think this is a terrible idea, and say so.
b)Lie and say you have a big project due tomorrow. You’re, um, too busy to participate.
c)Find yourself playing an important role in the prank, even though you never really wanted to do it in the first place!
Mostly 'A'
Model Citizen
Not only are you looked up to by friends and siblings, you’ve also earned the respect of the adults in your life. When there’s a decision to be made, you seriously consider the consequences of what you say and do. As a result, you act responsibly, which makes you a great role model!
Mostly 'B'
On Your Way
You usually want to do the right thing, but you tend to fall back on fibs and excuses to accomplish your goals—it’s so much easier than dealing with tough situations head-on! While setting a good example can feel risky (what if you’re made fun of?), you’ll find that the more you do it, the easier it becomes. Why? Because others really will begin to look up to you—and you’ll have more respect for yourself, too!
Mostly 'C'
The Wrong Role
While the idea of setting a good example is appealing, you’re more focused on having a great time than working on your role model status. There’s nothing wrong with having fun, of course, but it’s also important to think about how your actions and comments influence those around you. If you can say or do something to make a change for the better, go for it! Before you know it, everyone will be looking up to you!
